Welding robot ROI planning worksheet
Build the business case from measured production data and a project quotation. There is no default productivity multiplier or promised payback period.
Calculation inputs
- Total investment: equipment, integration, fixtures, safety measures, transport, taxes and training.
- Annual cash benefit: achievable overtime savings, avoided outsourcing and contribution margin from saleable additional output.
- Additional annual costs: maintenance, energy, consumables, programming and supervision.
Simple payback
Annual net benefit = annual cash benefit − additional annual costs. Simple payback in years = total investment ÷ positive annual net benefit. If the net benefit is zero or negative, this model has no finite positive payback.
Test the assumptions
Compare conservative, base and higher-utilization scenarios. Reallocated staff time is not automatically a cash saving. Do not double-count labor and extra output from the same capacity. This simplified model excludes financing and the time value of money; use your financial review for an investment decision.
Delivery destination, transport, taxes, installation, training, spare parts and support responsibilities in the written quotation.
